Holiday Charity Drive Followup

Thanks to everyone who purchased skin care products and makeup during December.  10% of all sales during the month were donated to charity.  We were able to make generous donations to 2 local charities - Blessing in a BackPack & YouthLinc. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Juvederm Voluma

We have a new Juvederm to add to our age-fighting arsenal.  Juvederm Voluma is now available and is FDA approved for cheek augmentation.  And.... it can last for up to two years!  Many of you may have noticed that as you age, your cheeks start to fall and flatten. These leads to a saggy, tired, older appearance. We can use filler to plump your cheeks back up.  A few simple Juvederm Voluma injections in this area can take years off your face with very long-lasting results!  Juvederm Voluma is used only in the cheek area right now due to it's unique lifting properties.  We will still be using Juvederm Ultra in the areas around the mouth, lips, and other facial lines.

Pardon our Mess

We will be doing some remodeling at our office for most of the first week of December, including new paint!   I won't be seeing patients, but we will still be open if you need to stop by and pick up products, or if you need to call with questions or scheduling needs.  We hope to have our new look completely finished by the new year.

Brilliant Distinctions Mobile App Now Available!

The long-awaited iphone App for easier mobile access to your Brilliant Distinctions account is finally available.  You can download it directly at www.BDMobileApp.com.  I tried to search it on the Apple Store and couldn't find it yet.  With this app you will be able to immediately access your points and coupons for easy in-office point redemption at your Botox and Juvederm visits. I am told that eventually an Android app will be available, but those of us that prefer Android (I will take my HTC One over an iPhone any day), will have to wait for now.

Good Time to Stock Up on Moisturizers

Rebate on Latisse

What is Coolsculpting?

You May Be Asking yourself, "Is this For Real"

CoolSculpting is the new cool way in Utah to gently reduce fat in targeted areas of the body.  This non-invasive procedure results in a noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in the treated areas without the need for needles, incisions, cannulas, anesthesia, or pain medication.  And there is no recovery time!

CoolSculpting is unique because it uses an advanced tissue cooling technology to gently target and eliminate fat cells without damaging the skin.  In just a few months following the CoolSculpting procedure, there is a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fat layer resulting in significant cosmetic improvement of treated fat bulges.

In my office, the abdomen and flank (better knows as love handles) are the most popular areas to treat, however we are seeing really great results in areas that have not been FDA cleared yet.

Those areas are the inner thighs, banana rolls, and bra fat. These areas are being studied now, but to get FDA clearance in can take some time. What we know is that again, we are seeing good results and controlled cooling of the CoolSculpting targets and eliminates only fat cells. There is no need for concern for surrounding tissue damage.

Other treatment modalities such as lasers, radiofrequency, and focused ultrasound
affect fat cells and may affect other adjacent tissue in a way that is not comparable to
the CoolSculpting method of cryolipolysis.

Ideal candidates for the CoolSculpting are relatively fit, but have
some modest-size fat bulges that are not easily reduced through diet and exercise.
They are seeking spot reduction for specific areas of fat, but are not considering
a surgical procedure.  CoolSculpting is not a way to lose weight or treat obesity,
and it is not a substitute for invasive methods like liposuction.

This is one of my favorite pictures of an actual patient just 2 months after her first treatment. Every one will have results that vary, but this gives you an idea at how great this treatment truly is!

What should you look for in a moisturizer and how do you choose?

First, you want to use a moisturizer that feels good on the skin. This is determined by the emollients used in the product. You want to make sure it doesn’t break you out. It also needs to hydrate in the correct amount, not to much or not enough. You might also need to change your moisturizer as your hormones may change, or if you are in a different climate. The thing you should ALWAYS look for are anti aging ingredients in effective concentrations.

ANTI-AGING INGREDIENTS

*Anti-oxidants are ingredients that help block collagen breakdown and help nourish the skin. Vitamins are anti-oxidants and some of the popular used in skin care include; vitamin C, Vitamin E, as well as several B vitamins. Others you should look for are; Alpha Lipoic Acid, Resveratrol, Coenzyme Q10 and tea extracts.

*Alpha-hydroxy acids are safe skin acids including Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, and Pyruvic Acid. These acids have an exfoliating effect on the  outer layer of your epidermis helping smooth your skin while the emollients hydrate the deep layers of your epidermis.

*Peptides help to directly stimulate new collagen formations and certain peptides, including Argireline, which can also have a mild muscle relaxing effect on facial muscles.

Look Younger With Botox

Botox is the #1 cosmetic procedure in the world and a great starting point for first time aesthetic patients. It is east, safe, relatively inexpensive and the results are impressive. Yet lots of people remain afraid of Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified derivative from the Botulinum Type A Toxin- a powerful muscle relaxant produced by a type of bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. The key word here is purified. What we inject for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes is very far removed from its original “toxin” form.

Todays Lesson Is...

As I mentioned earlier this month in our newsletter, the top 4 skin care products in our office are 15% off through the month of June.

Choosing what skin care line is best for you takes time. Getting to know what your skin likes takes time. As you go through the process of fine tuning these regimes, you should take time to understand what you are really feeding your skin.

Over the next couple of weeks I will teach you what to look for in your cleansers, exfoliators, serums and moisturizers. Today we will start with looking at cleansers.

First things first-

Meet Infusing Cleanser from my exclusive skin care line, Pelle Di Giovane.

The Infusing Cleanser has always been a top selling product in my office. It is our most gentle cleanser, is wonderful for all skin types and popular for men and women. It is “infused” with RoseHip Seed Oil, Olive Oil, 70+essential oils, and seaweed extract.

Not a whole lot to it, just simple, active ingredients.

Now, what should you look for in a cleanser? If you have read my book "7 Ways To Look Younger Without Undergoing The Knife", you know that you have already been told to not use “soap”. You want to use a cleanser designed specifically for the face. You want to remove dirt, debris, makeup, and unnecessary oils, all with out stripping your skin of its good oils and natural moisture. A well-designed facial cleanser will do just that. Unfortunately, many facial cleansers aren’t well designed.

One of the best gauges that you can use to measure the quality of your facial cleanser is if it contains sodium laurel sulfate. This is an extremely common ingredient in cleansers, but it is an extremely harsh detergent  used in car washes and garage floor cleaners. I am just guessing……but, I think that you wouldn’t use a garage floor cleaner on your face. So if your cleanser lists sodium laurel sulfate as an ingredient, throw it away and find another. Look for cleansers that contain natural oils like rose hip seed and olive oil. These remove dirt while helping to maintain your skins natural moisture levels.

Get Free Botox in June!

Did you know that the national average for people receiving Botox is 35 units per visit? Less Time Now to Use your BD Points

Allergan has made a few changes to the Brilliant Distinctions program.  One of those changes is a shortening of the time before unused points expire.  You now have 9 months (instead of 18) to use your points.  Obviously, by doing this, they are encouraging everyone to get their Botox or Juvederm more regularly.  This new time requirement applies to points earned on or after May 15th.  Any points earned prior to that date still have an 18 month expiration period.  Don't forget to use your points - it's free money!

Sunscreen Sale

All sunscreen products are on sale this month in recognition of May being National Melanoma Awareness Month.  Don't forget the sunscreen this summer, and remember to reapply often.  Each application only gives you coverage for a few hours at most.  I personally think that the Sunforgetable mineral sunscreen brush is the easiest sun protection product to use repetitively throughout the day.

Free Latisse with Juvederm in May
